Birds at Spit beach 17th March 2015.

Male Black Redstart

This Black Redstart was the "target" species for yesterday morning at Spit beach, Par.

I knew it had been around the area for most of the winter but hadn't managed to go over there so yesterday Jeremy Northcott and I made the effort and were rewarded with some great views and a few photos.

This bird should be leaving soon on migration to Europe where it'll breed during the summer months.

I saw one at the nest in the French Alps last June but it's always good to see these species here in Cornwall.

The kestrel and wren were bonus birds for the morning!

Songbirds

A walk with the dogs this morning showed me that many songbirds were pairing up and singing in the hedgerows, but as usual I didn't have my camera gear.

So a quick dash back to the house and I was able to grab a few shots of my main target species Yellowhammer, with a few shots of a pair of Linnets and a Wren.
