Cornish Choughs on Newquay headland. 10th Oct 2020.

I'd heard on Facebook that there had been some Choughs around the Newquay area... they are gradually spreading up the North coast having initially bred down on the Lizard.

So I popped out to east Pentire headland between Fistral beach & the Gannel at Crantock and lo and behold there were 6 Choughs feeding on the short cropped grasses on the clifftop.

They were concentrating on feeding & oblivious to all around them. Peoples dogs bounding around & holidaymakers taking pics of the view & selfies with the waves in the background etc.

Always exciting for a Cornishman to see our "National" bird, but to see 6 together... Wow!

Anyway here are a few photos....

Predators of the Cornish coast. 3rd July 2019

Juvenile Peregrine

A couple of hours on the North Cornish cliffs and saw four of the main predators all in the air within minutes of each other. The Peregrine did give chase to the Kestrel, the Raven was part of a family of 4 juveniles & 2 adults and the Sparrowhawk was a complete surprise!

Fulmars on the North Cornwall coast. 2nd June 2019

Just love watching these "masters of the air" effortlessly glide along the cliff edge using very breath of air that nature provides.

Sunset at Pentire Point 3rd Jan 2017

A cracking sunset this evening taken from Pentire Point looking west toward Trevose Head.

A bit draughty though!

Also great light over the Rumps point a few minutes earlier.

Also managed to add a few more species to my #My200BirdYear,

Kestrel,
Redwing,
Shag,
Fulmar,
Barn Owl.

Thats taken me past 50 at 52, not bad for 3 days of not really pushing it too much!
Many common birds still to count, I get Greenfinch in the garden nearly every day but not since I started counting & I've still not spotted a Great Tit yet this year!

12 hours with the Gannets at Bempton cliffs 18th June 2016.

Just a few of the many photos I took today at Bempton in Yorkshire in what was a cold and windy start but turned out fine and sunny.

The windy conditions suited photographing seabirds as they were literally "hanging in the air".
